PART 1: selecting a Sponsor
Part of preparation for Confirmation is selecting a sponsor. Your sponsor should be a practicing Catholic. Think of people you know who fully live out their Catholic faith, who will model the roles of priest, prophet, and king and inspire you with ways to practice these roles too. Don’t forget to consider your baptismal godparents! Because of the connection between Baptism and Confirmation, a godparent often makes a good Confirmation sponsor. Consider discussing your choice with your parents. They can help you decide who to ask. You might feel a little nervous when you are ready to ask someone to be your Confirmation sponsor. Remember that this person will most likely feel flattered and honored to be asked.
The Church requires that a Confirmation sponsor be at least 16 years of age, be fully initiated (someone who has received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation), and be a practicing Catholic. Parents cannot be sponsors.
Ask yourself these questions:
Part 2:
Your Sponsor needs to fill out this form by Sunday, Oct. 31. Please scroll down to see all the questions, then hit the purple SUBMIT button. Thank you.
Part 3: sponsor candidate shared activity
Sponsor Portion: Each sponsor is asked to write a letter to the Confirmation candidate that gives them some helpful advice or suggestions about choosing & staying on the “right path” as they enter their teen years.
Please include some guidance on how God can be relied on in these often difficult times. How has faith played a role in your own life in making decisions or dealing with life’s challenges?
Step #2 (Confirmation Candidate Portion): Candidates upon receiving a letter from his/her sponsor should make a small poster or collage on a piece of 8.5 X 11 card stock.
This poster should reflect the advice that the sponsor gave to you in the letter that they wrote to you. This should be done using words and pictures. The pictures may be hand drawn or cut from magazines.
This exercise is intended only to get you to truly think about the advice that your sponsor gave to you. By attempting to use art or words to reflect the advice, it may help you to remember it and take the advice to heart.
