A Message From the Moderator

As we begin our new adventure as the Family of Parishes here in North Macomb, I wanted
to offer my thanks to all who have been working thus far to create this new entity. Now that
we are officially a “family,” it will take each one of us to nurture and support our programs
as we move into the future. Each of our parishes has a unique identity and we want to
preserve that while at the same time share our gifts and talents with one another.
The Commissioning Mass held on Sunday October 10th was a wonderful collaborative
effort as we incorporated the traditions and abilities from each parish. In my role as
Moderator, my task will be to moderate or mediate and temperate different viewpoints to
ensure that all interests are heard. Since we are so different in many ways, I will be assisted
by six directors whose task will be to gather people from all three parishes in various areas
to come to a consensus of how best we can proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Christopher Kozlowski will serve as Mission Support Director (administration). Rebecca
Poupard (formerly Roberts) will oversee the Worship area. John Karski will head up
Evangelical Charity (Christian Service). Christopher Piebiak has the task of directing a new
entity called Family Ministries which encompasses a variety of programs. Finally, Matt
Kush will be our director of Engagement which is a combination of outreach and media and
invitation, drawing people to the Church through public channels. At this time, the director
of Discipleship Formation (Religious Education) is still being determined. That individual
will be tasked with overseeing the education and formation programs of children, youth,
and adults.
I’m excited to be working with these wonderful individuals as well as getting to know the
parishioners and staffs of our three parishes. It will be somewhat of a learning curve for me
as well. While I do read Spanish and can celebrate Mass, my conversational level in the
Spanish language is very basic. I ask for your indulgence as I learn more about our parishes
within the Family.
As we move forward with this new initiative, let us ask our patrons, St. Francis, St.
Maximilian, St. Isidore, and St. Therese to guide all of our endeavors. May God who has
begun this good work within us bring it to fulfillment.

What is Families of Parishes?

Over the next two years, parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit will join together to form new groupings called “families of parishes” or FOP. These groups – these families – of three to six parishes will work together and share human and material resources to further advance our shared mission.
